When I think about our Vietnam itinerary with Dhruthi, the experiences have a clear pattern: movement, water, performances and space between them. These are eight experiences I would build a family route around again, grouped by the base that makes them easier to plan.

You do not need to fit all eight into one trip. Use the list to choose the mix that suits your family, then build in the quieter moments around it.

1. Cycling around the Hanoi base

Cycling brings a different kind of movement into a city-heavy holiday. It adds an active outing alongside Hanoi’s city sights.

Planning note: Confirm the route, child seating and equipment with your operator, and choose the outing around your family’s comfort.

2. A water puppet show in Hanoi

A show gives the day a clear finish and a different way into Vietnamese culture. Our original Hanoi day included a break before the evening water puppet plan.

Planning note: Leave room to eat and rest beforehand rather than arriving straight from a full day of sightseeing.

3. A Ha Long Bay cruise

The cruise was a full-day excursion from our Hanoi base, with the port transfers built into the day. It adds a water-based experience without changing hotels.

Planning note: Look at the whole day, including road transfers, meals and boarding, when comparing options.

4. Trang An boating near Ninh Binh

Trang An was another day trip from Hanoi, giving the itinerary a quieter landscape beyond the city. Boating was part of the toddler-activity list we wanted to share.

Planning note: Keep the evening easy after the return trip and check the boat arrangements with the operator before booking.

5. Ba Na Hills from Da Nang

The cable-car journey and Golden Bridge were the centre of the Ba Na Hills day. We placed it after a lighter Da Nang day rather than immediately after a transfer.

Planning note: Treat it as the main outing of the day; leave flexibility for weather, queues and your child’s energy.

6. Lantern time and Hoi An Memories

Hoi An’s lanterns and the Memories show gave us a different evening plan from the city days. The itinerary spread Hoi An experiences across several days.

Planning note: Keep the afternoon gentler when you plan an evening show, and check the performance time before booking.

7. Coconut Village boating in Hoi An

Coconut Village and food were paired on one Hoi An day. It is another way to include boating without making every water experience a full-day excursion.

Planning note: Discuss the boat style, length and child arrangements before choosing a trip.

8. Mekong Delta boating from Ho Chi Minh City

The Mekong Delta was the final major day trip on our route, before a more flexible city day and departure. It gives the southern part of the trip its own river experience.

Planning note: Check the full excursion length and transfers, and leave a simple evening after the return journey.

Plan the space between the activities

Our planner included an easy Da Nang day, hotel breaks and quieter evenings after longer excursions. For me, that is the part worth keeping when you borrow the route: the holiday needs room for a toddler’s pace as well as the experiences you came for.

This list follows our April–May 2023 route. Check current schedules, equipment and operator arrangements before booking.
